Quick Facts
About University
The university is known as one of the largest and most diversified universities of the arts worldwide. It has four colleges specialising in fine arts, architecture, media and design, music and performing arts, with around 4,000 students. UdK is thus one of only three universities in Germany to combine art and music departments in one institution. The teaching in the four colleges covers the entire spectrum of the arts and related academic disciplines in more than 40 courses. Berlin University of the Arts has the right to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and is one of the few art colleges in Germany with full university status.
The outstanding professors and students of all its colleges, as well as the continuous development of teaching concepts, have clearly defined the university as a high standard for artistic and artistic-theoretical education. Almost all courses of study at the Berlin University of the Arts are part of a centuries-old tradition. Thus, the Berlin University of the Arts provides its students with the opportunity to explore and experiment with other forms of art in order to recognize and expand the boundaries of their own discipline, at an early stage by strictly selected artists and within the protected scope of the course of study.
In the field of fine arts, the university is known for its highly competitive admissions process, and over the years the number of applicants from around the world has increased due to Berlin’s important role in cultural innovation worldwide. In addition, the University of the Arts has received public recognition for being at the forefront of visual arts, fashion design, industrial design, and experimental design.

Obtaining a visa
If you need a visa to enter Germany, you should obtain information about the "Studienbewerbervisum" from the German embassy before submitting your application. UdK Berlin recommends that foreign applicants apply for a visa immediately after receiving confirmation of their application. This will allow you to travel to Germany in time to take part in the entrance examinations after receiving your invitation. You will receive an application confirmation with an application number on the Campus Management Portal my.udk-berlin (as a PDF document) after submitting your online application. Along with the application confirmation, you must also submit your application and application information to the embassy (see the application page for the relevant study programme ). Please note that it may take several weeks to issue a visa and the dates of the entrance exams cannot be changed! UdK Berlin cannot influence or speed up this process. Unfortunately, in this case it is not possible to issue you with an invitation or a certificate of "conditional admission", since artistic talent is a decisive factor for admission to study at UdK Berlin.
