About University

Carnegie Mellon Qatar is part of Education City, a campus on the outskirts of Doha that currently houses eight other university campuses from the United States and Europe. Other institutions in Education City include Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Weill Cornell Medical College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Texas A&M, Northwestern University, HEC Paris, and University College London.

The Carnegie Mellon Doha campus offers the same programs and curricula as the Pittsburgh campus. Students earn bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Computational Biology, and Biological Sciences (a degree offered jointly with Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar).

Writing a Supplement Essay

The Writing Supplement Essay question can be found in the CMU-Q "Writing Supplement" section of the Common Application. Please note that although the Writing Supplement Essay is required, there is also an essay in the Common Application. This essay is optional for CMU-Q applicants.

Providing the necessary documents

Payment of the entrance fee

A non-refundable application fee of $70 must be paid online by credit card upon completion of the application process. A fee waiver may be requested through the Common App if needed.

Obtaining a visa

International students applying to Carnegie Mellon apply for a visa sponsored by the Qatar Foundation. The initial visa is valid for one year and can be extended until the end of the program. To keep the visa valid, students must be enrolled full-time and maintain student status. Once accepted, students will be provided with additional information and guidance.

Preparing for departure includes booking tickets and accommodation, medical preparation, collecting necessary documents, financial preparation, packing luggage, learning local rules and customs, and familiarizing yourself with transportation.
