About University

In 1939, Hofstra University separated from NYU and became an independent institution of higher education. Today, it is the largest private university on Long Island. And since then, it has become one of the leading universities in the region.

Hofstra University is proud of its history and traditions, and they play an important role in student life. Hofstra University has been welcoming international students to its campus for many years. The university, located just 40 kilometers east of the “capital of the world” – New York City – encourages students to gain academic and social experience in a culturally diverse environment both on and off campus. International students at University X enjoy the benefits of an American higher education while studying at a private university with a rich history, located in the suburbs of a metropolitan city. The university places great emphasis on research.

Its faculty includes highly qualified professors, such as Fulbright scholars, Guggenheim fellows, National Endowment for the Humanities and National Institutes of Health awardees.

How to Enroll

Follow these steps to apply Hofstra University

1

Complete your online application

Completing the application typically takes 30-45 minutes, not including the time you spend writing your personal statement and uploading supporting documents. International first-year students must pay either a $70 application fee or a fee waiver if the fee is associated with financial hardship.

2

Activate your electronic ID

Within one to two days of submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your electronic identification (what we call NetID), which will allow you to access the status of your application.

3

Please check your application status and email inbox to ensure your application is complete.

Some applicants may be asked to provide additional information, such as a new transcript, proof of English language proficiency, or an explanation of academic performance, before an admissions decision is made.

4

Wait for a decision on your admission

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Most applicants will receive a decision within four weeks of submitting a complete application with all required materials.

5

Check your application status online or your email for updates and next steps.

The university will first notify you of your decision by email and then send you a printed official acceptance packet, which usually arrives by mail two to three weeks after admission.
