About University

After receiving an offer from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development in 2006, Northwestern agreed to open a campus in Education City the following year. In August 2008, NU-Q’s first class of 2012 was born. Additional classes have been added each year, and the university has developed strong ties to local organizations, partnering with media groups and engaging with a number of regional initiatives to create additional educational and professional opportunities for its students.

Northwestern University in Qatar students and faculty have heard from a number of distinguished journalists, scholars, and media professionals, including Fareed Zakaria of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS"; journalist Evan Osnos of The New Yorker; television journalist Tim Sebastian; Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi; Carlos Van Meek, former head of Al Jazeera English; Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times; Jeff Cole, head of the World Internet Project; Rami Khoury, editor of the Beirut Daily Star; and Sofia Al Maria, author and filmmaker.

The university graduated its first class in the spring of 2012.

You can apply through Early Action, Regular Decision, or Transfer, all of which allow you to compare admissions and financial aid offers from other universities before May 1.

Payment of the entrance fee

A non-refundable application fee of $75 must be paid online by credit card upon completion of the application for admission.

Announcement of decisions

Early Action candidates are notified by mid-December. Regular Decision candidates are notified by the end of March. Transfer Decision candidates are notified by mid-April.

Making a deposit

Confirm your participation in the program by making a deposit for your place before May 1st.

Obtaining a visa
