About University

Qatar University is a public research university located on the northern outskirts of Doha, Qatar. It is the only public university in the country. The university has ten colleges - Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Pharmacy, College of Health Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, and College of Nursing.

Instruction is in Arabic and English. Students entering the university sometimes take a "preparatory program" that provides skills such as mathematics and English.

Many of the university's academic departments have received or are currently undergoing assessment for accreditation by a number of organisations. In addition to its teaching facilities, QU has a research infrastructure that includes research laboratories, an ocean-going vessel, technical equipment and a library with a collection of rare manuscripts.

The university conducts regional research on behalf of the government and private companies, particularly in the fields of ecology and energy technology. Qatar University has students of fifty-two nationalities, 65% of whom are Qatari citizens. About 35% are children of expatriates. Women make up about 70% of the student body, and they have their own facilities and classrooms.
