About University

Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU or HKPU) is a public technical university that was founded in 1937 as a trade school, and initially did not have the status of a university. In 1945, the school was reoriented to teaching technical specialties, which became the main profile of the educational institution. In 1994, the Chinese government officially awarded the school the status of a university. Today, it is one of the fastest growing and most ambitious technical universities in Asia. With 85 years of proud traditions and ranked among the top 100 educational institutions in the world, Polytechnic University strives to become a leading university with world-class research and education.
