Review the admission requirements
Review the admission requirements and any subject-specific prerequisites for your program. These are set out on the course pages where Standard, Minimum and Gateway entry levels are listed. UK applicants should use the qualification indicator to see which requirements apply to them. International applicants should use the standard entry requirements. The Entry Requirements page always lists requirements for SQA Highers, GCE A-Levels and International Baccalaureate, but a wide range of qualifications from around the world are accepted, check what is accepted in your country on the Entry Requirements page .

You should also check the general entry requirements for the course you are interested in (listed on the course page).
Course selection
If you have the option of choosing a course between Arts (MA) and Sciences (BSc), you must decide which faculty is right for you. If you are applying for a course in one faculty that is also offered in another faculty, you should be careful to ensure that the UCAS codes are entered correctly; for example, the course code for Psychology (MA) is different from the course code for Psychology (BSc).
Item code entry
Once you have decided on your course and department, make a note of the UCAS code for your chosen course. This is a four-digit code that can be found underneath the key information about your course.
Preparation of Personal Statement
Please prepare your UCAS Personal Statement carefully to ensure it reflects your course choice. For more information on what we look for in your statement, please see our How to Apply page.
Submitting an application
Submit your UCAS application using the correct UCAS course code by the relevant deadline.
Application processing
Once you have submitted your application, the Admissions Office will process it. You will receive an email confirmation from the Admissions Office that the University has received your application, regardless of which method you used to submit your application. Once you receive this email, you should not expect to hear from the University again until a decision has been made on your application. All offers will be sent primarily by email, with successful applicants also receiving a letter and leaflet with further information about your offer.
Getting a response
In response to your application, you may receive three responses. These include: 1. Unconditional offer This means that you have already achieved the grades or qualifications required to study your chosen course and your offer has been confirmed. 2. Conditional offer This means that you have not yet achieved the required grades or qualifications to study your chosen course, and your offer will only be confirmed if you achieve the stated grades or qualifications. If you meet the terms of the offer, we will confirm your place, but if you do not achieve the stated grades or qualifications, your offer may be withdrawn. 3. We cannot offer you a place. Unfortunately, the number of applications from well-qualified applicants exceeds the number of places and therefore there are no places available on your chosen course. If you have yet to sit your final GCSEs, you should not expect to receive an unconditional offer. Conditional offers are made to eligible applicants on the condition that they achieve certain grades or qualifications, and their offer will then be confirmed. If any of the details that influenced our initial offer decision change, such as payment status, the offer will be reviewed and the University reserves the right to withdraw it.
Obtaining a visa
To apply for a student visa, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance Number (CAS) issued by the university. You will not be able to apply for a student visa until you have received your CAS number. The CAS number will not be issued until March. You cannot apply for a visa more than six months before the start of the semester. Further information about the CAS process, as well as who to contact if you have any questions, can be found on the International Student Support webpage .
