Scholarships

Only the support routes relevant to this programme are listed. Amounts marked as references must be reconfirmed for the applicant's award year.

UTokyo Design Scholarship — Need-Based

Separate application

  • "All students" are eligible to be considered. Across both award types, "Approximately 20% of the students per year will be eligible." "Support from the second year onwards is contingent on the continuing financial needs and satisfactory academic performance. The scholarship from the second year onwards may be available depending on the financial needs."
  • "Equivalent to the sum of admission fee, tuition fee and living expenses in Japan. For residents coming from outside Japan, one-way travel expenses to Japan will also be provided." No cash amount is published.
  • "Documents to prove financial needs are required." The award is decided alongside admission — "Results will be notified at the time of admission" (February 20, 2027) — so the financial-need documentation is submitted as part of, or alongside, the application rather than after enrolment. "*Details will be announced when the application guidelines are published."
  • Approximately 20% of students per year are expected to be eligible for the UTokyo Design Scholarship overall. Continuation beyond the first year is conditional on continuing financial need and satisfactory academic performance. Full terms, amounts and the application mechanism are not yet published: "Details will be announced when the application guidelines are published."

UTokyo Design Scholarship — Merit-Based Awards

Separate application

  • Students showing exceptional academic excellence. Approximately 20% of students per year are expected to be eligible for the UTokyo Design Scholarship overall.

"Results will be notified at the time of admission. From the second year, students must apply every year to be eligible for consideration of the award."
  • The automatic mode applies only to the first year, where the award follows from the admission results with no separate application. From the second year onwards it becomes an annual competitive application ("students must apply every year to be eligible for consideration of the award"). Amounts, coverage and duration are unpublished: "*Details will be announced when the application guidelines are published."

Gap Term fee support

Separate application

  • "students who need assistance" — no test or threshold is published.
  • Financial support towards the fees charged for the optional Gap Term English communication and Japanese language programmes. "A fee applies to the English and Japanese programs. Financial support will be available for students who need assistance." No amount is published.
