The University of Pavia (Università di Pavia) is one of the oldest universities in Europe. It was founded in 825 as the "School of Law, Rhetoric and Humanities" and was officially established as a university in 1361. The University of Pavia is one of the most advanced in Europe, with an impressive number of famous alumni, renowned academics and Nobel laureates. The university is among the best in the world in engineering and technology, biomedical and natural sciences.

The University of Pavia is officially part of the European Campus of University Cities (EC2U), a network of seven historic universities between which students can move freely for study, research and internships. In addition, during their time at the university, most students have the opportunity to study abroad through academic exchange programmes.
The University of Pavia is constantly expanding its range of study programmes taught in English. The University of Pavia is one of the few public universities in Italy where you can take a Foundation Year. Taking this course gives you a higher chance of admission and exempts you from paying tuition for the first year of study. The preparation is conducted in Italian, but knowledge of it is not required for admission to the Foundation Year, as students learn Italian from scratch.

Entrance examinations (for the bachelor's program)
BACHELOR'S DEGREE: Applicants must pass the entrance exams - the English TOLC-I or English TOLC@CASA test ( Italian equivalents of the UNT) or the SAT test - and send the results of one of them to the University of Pavia along with the application for study. English TOLC-I can be taken offline at any university in Italy, English TOLC@CASA and SAT can be taken online. FOUNDATION YEAR PROGRAM: Entrance exams are not required to be accepted to the program.
Submitting an application for training, exam results and payment of the entrance fee
Submit your application and entrance exam results (for the Bachelor's program) to the University of Pavia via your profile on the university website. You will need to pay an application fee of 35 euros.
Decision on the application
BACHELOR'S DEGREE: After receiving your application, entrance exam results and payment of the entrance fee, the University of Pavia will review your applications within one month and make a decision on admission. The review is carried out on a competitive basis and applications are assigned points based on the results of one of the exams: English TOLC-I, English TOLC@CASA, SAT. To be successfully admitted, you must achieve an overall English TOLC-I or English TOLC@CASA score of at least 21/50 or an overall SAT score of at least 979/1600. In the event of a tie between applications, priority will be given to the candidate with the higher English TOLC-I/English TOLC@CASA/SAT score in the Mathematics section. In the event of a tie in Mathematics between applications, priority will be given to the application received first. The results of the call for applications for the Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence programme will be published on the website: https://portale.unipv.it/it/didattica/corsi-di-laurea/corsi-di-laurea-triennale-e-magistrali-a-ciclo-unico/artificial-intelligence. The vacancies remaining after the main intake will be distributed among the candidates with the lowest scores in descending order. In this case, candidates who do not obtain the required minimum score will have to pass an additional exam during the first year of study for the bachelor's degree. FOUNDATION YEAR PROGRAM: If you have met the admission requirements and demonstrated sufficient motivation to study, you will receive a notification of admission by e-mail.
Registration for studies (Preliminary stage)
Once you have received notification of a positive decision on your application, you must confirm your acceptance of the course in writing and begin pre-registration for your studies. The pre-registration application must be submitted through the Universitaly online portal at the following link: https://www.universitaly.it The deadline for submitting the pre-registration application for the 2024-2025 academic year is August 31, 2024. Instructions for completing the form are available at the following link: https://web-en.unipv.it/documents-required-for-your-stay/ Due to the high volume of pre-registration requests, this process may take up to 5 weeks. Please check your email and Universitaly profile regularly to receive notifications about pre-registration confirmation or the need to make corrections or provide missing information. Without pre-registration, enrolment at the University is not possible.
Applying for a student visa
Once you have received confirmation of pre-registration from Universitaly, you can go to the Italian Embassy/Consulate to apply for a student visa (type D visa). To find out where and how to apply for a visa to Italy and what documents are needed, follow this link: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en Once you have received your visa, do not forget to send a copy by email to access@unipv.it and upload it to your profile on the University website to confirm your enrollment at the University of Pavia. You must also start booking accommodation in Pavia.
Registration for study (Intermediate stage) and payment of registration tax
After pre-registering on the Universitaly portal and obtaining your student visa, you must continue with online registration before leaving for Italy. First, register on the student portal at the following link: https://studentionline.unipv.it/Home.do. You can then proceed to pay the registration tax of 156 euros. Registration for studies (Final stage)
To complete the registration, you must send scans of the following documents to the Admissions Office: admission@unipv.it: 1. Secondary school certificate/diploma with official translation into Italian/English; 2. Certificate of legalization of the certificate/diploma from the Italian embassy/consulate or an apostille from the official body of the country that issued the certificate/diploma or a Statement of Verification from CIMEA. 3. Certificate of legal force (Dichiarazione di valore) of educational documents issued by the Italian embassy/consulate or a certificate of conformity of educational documents (Statement of Comparability) from CIMEA; 4. UNT results; 5. A copy of the student visa. The above documents must be submitted to the Admissions Office before arriving in Italy. Failure to comply with this requirement will entail penalties from the university, up to and including expulsion. Important steps before arriving in Italy - Taxpayer identification number
Before leaving for Italy, it is necessary to apply for the “Codice Fiscale”, the Italian tax identification number, which is necessary to open a bank account, rent a home and apply for a Residence permit in Italy. It is necessary to obtain an official “Codice Fiscale” with the stamp of the Italian Tax Agency, since the copy automatically generated by the online payment system of the University is unofficial.
