Universitet haqida

The University of Szeged (Hungarian: Szegedi Tudományegyetem) is a public research university in Szeged, Hungary. Founded in 1581 as the Jesuit Academy of Kolozsvár in present-day Cluj-Napoca, it was re-established as a university in 1872 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. In 1921, the university moved to Szeged, becoming one of the oldest research universities in Hungary. It underwent many changes throughout the 20th century and was eventually divided into several independent universities.

The modern University of Szeged was founded in 2000 and consists of twelve faculties and nineteen doctoral schools, which include a number of departments and research groups. Each faculty functions autonomously. In addition, the university operates the University of Szeged Health Centre, a large teaching hospital responsible for public regional health care, and three laboratory schools that combine the functions of public education and teacher training. The faculties and their associated buildings do not form a single campus, as they are scattered around the centre of Szeged, although the Health Centre and the buildings of the Faculty of Arts are adjacent to each other. As part of the Bologna Zone, most of the programmes are divided into bachelor's, master's and PhD programmes, but there are also so-called single-cycle master's programmes.
