Year 1, semester 1 (A semester for September 2027 entrants; S semester for April Students join their supervisor's laboratory immediately and begin the compulsory research-work sequence while taking lecture courses from their own and neighbouring research areas. Courses are chosen in consultation with the academic advisor and registered online through UTAS; "No registration or changes to any courses, including intensive courses, are permitted outside the designated registration period." Note the September and April intakes join the same course cycle at different points, so the first semester is the A semester for Schedule 1 entrants and the S semester for Schedule 2 entrants. Special Masters Research Work I (2 credits) GPES lecture courses Special Masters Seminar I (2 credits) Year 1, semester 2 The research-work and seminar sequences continue (Special Masters Research Work II; Special Masters Seminar II) alongside further lecture courses, building towards the 24 credits that must come from courses offered exclusively for GPES students. Year 2 masters students give interim research presentations within the programme. Special Masters Research Work II (2 credits) Courses in other departments, graduate schools or the undergraduate senior division Year 2: research, Special Masters Research Work III–IV and the master's thesis The final year is dominated by thesis research. Students complete Special Masters Research Work III and IV, must have completed the standard two years and all programme requirements, then file the Title of Thesis form, submit the thesis and abstract (three copies each) to the PEAK/GPEAK Section, and pass the screening of the thesis and the final examination. "Deadlines are strictly set. Extensions are NOT permitted." GPES thesis submission windows are set separately from the GSP ones each year.
