The University of Tokyo Scholarship
Separate application
- Offered to students of exceptional merit among successful PEAK applicants; up to ten students may be offered this scholarship.
- Admission fee, tuition, and living expenses of JPY 126,000 a month.
- No separate application. "Merit-based scholarships are available. In principle, all scholarships are offered when successful applicants are notified of their admission to the university. The selection of scholarship recipients is based on the screening process. There is no separate application."
- In principle does not allow the recipient to receive any other type of scholarship. Admission and/or scholarship may be retroactively cancelled for academic fraud during the application process, exam or interview.
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship
Separate application
- Up to five international successful applicants may be offered the scholarship. Information updated on November 22, 2023.
- Admission fee, tuition, a round-trip economy-class airline ticket between home country and Japan, and living expenses of JPY 120,000 a month.
- No separate application by the applicant; recipients are selected by the University of Tokyo through the PEAK screening process and notified with the admission decision (university recommendation route).
- In principle does not allow the recipient to receive any other type of scholarship. Renewal contingent on satisfactory academic performance.
The University of Tokyo-JAGAM Supplementary Scholarship for Malaysian Nationals
Separate application
- Malaysian students; up to three students recommended by the University of Tokyo.
- A one-way economy class airline ticket from Malaysia to Narita/Haneda International Airport and a return economy-class ticket upon graduation (certain rules apply).
- Recipients are recommended by the University of Tokyo; funded by the Japan Graduates' Association of Malaysia (JAGAM). Details at http://www.jagam.org.my/
- Supplementary scholarship; limited to three recommended students.
The University of Tokyo-JUGAS Supplementary Scholarship for Singaporean Nationals
Separate application
- Singaporean students; up to three students recommended by the University of Tokyo.
- A one-way economy class airline ticket from Singapore to Narita/Haneda International Airport and a return economy class ticket upon graduation (certain rules apply).
- Recipients are recommended by the University of Tokyo; funded by the Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS). Details at http://web.jugas.org.sg/
- Supplementary scholarship; limited to three recommended students.
Scholarship for Vietnamese Students Studying in Japan (Fast Retailing Foundation)
Separate application
- Vietnamese students who meet the requirements set by the Fast Retailing Foundation; approximately 10 students awarded.
- Tuition and other fees (examination, enrollment, tuition fees and insurance premiums); preparation support of JPY 200,000; monthly stipend of JPY 128,000 - JPY 160,000.
- Applied for directly with the Fast Retailing Foundation, which manages all screening and financial procedures. Registration acceptance for the 2026-entry cycle: July 1 (Tue.) - August 4 (Mon.), 2025, 08:00 AM (JST). https://www.fastretailing-foundation.or.jp/eng/scholarships/
- Not administered by the University of Tokyo; screening and financial procedures are handled entirely by the Foundation.
Scholarship for Indonesian Students Studying in Japan (Fast Retailing Foundation)
