A two-year, fully English-taught Master's course inside the University of Tokyo's International Admission Program in Resilience Engineering, run by the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management of the Graduate School of Engineering on the Hongo Campus. It combines resilience engineering — the design of sociotechnical systems that absorb shocks and adapt to long-term change — with the department's own nuclear curriculum in reactor safety, radiation sources and measurement, advanced modelling and simulation, and materials in extreme environments, together with the social-science and risk-communication strand the department built after the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Students join a laboratory under a supervisor and combine taught coursework with laboratory research leading to a master's thesis over the standard two-year master's programme.
