International Admission Program in Resilience Engineering — Systems Innovation Course

Year 1 Students enrol in October 2027, join a laboratory under their supervisor and take the taught component of the programme. The department's curriculum has three strands available from the start: advanced and beyond-disciplinary lectures in the key areas of systems innovation studies; fundamental science lectures in the student's own engineering domain, chosen and studied "of their own initiative"; and applied exercises. Lectures for the Resilience Engineering programme are given collaboratively by faculty from the Department of Systems Innovation, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management and other related departments, and are delivered in English. Lectures on advanced or beyond-disciplinary knowledge in the key areas of systems innovation studies Fundamental science lectures constituting the basis of individual engineering domains, including basic lectures and exercises Systems Innovation Projects — Special Program, Core Discipline, Core Skill, Group Work, Laboratory Work Special Lecture on Systems Innovation (external lecturers) Japanese language courses (optional, not a degree requirement) Year 2 The second year is centred on laboratory research and the master's thesis, with remaining credits completed alongside. The Graduate School of Engineering states that "As students progress to higher levels, coursework decreases, and research — conducted in laboratories for their master's or doctoral theses — becomes the main focus", with "individualized guidance from academic advisors or participating in collaborative research projects". Students may also earn credit through Advanced Practice on Systems Innovation for training, research or practical work at companies, research institutes or overseas, and present outside their own laboratory through the Advance Seminar on Systems Innovation.
