Submitting an application online
Once you submit your application, you will see instructions for paying the $65 nonrefundable application fee (or requesting a fee waiver) on the status page of your application portal. Application fee waivers are currently based on financial need. For information on how to obtain a fee waiver based on financial need, please see the Certification and Signature section of your Montclair State University application and the Profile section of the Common App. If you are applying to a program with an audition fee (Dance, Music, Music Therapy, Musical Theatre, Theatre), you will also see and be able to pay the audition fee on your status page. Submitting an official transcript of your high school diploma
Provide an official high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from your advisor. Upload your unofficial transcript to the Application Portal at . For most majors, a letter of recommendation is not required, but is highly recommended. Please note that Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre require two letters of recommendation. One of your letters of recommendation must be specific to your major.

Complete and Upload Your Essay/Personal Statement. You will be able to upload your Essay/Personal Statement before you submit your application. Essay prompts vary by major. You can view your major's essay prompts here . If you would like to submit a resume or a list of extracurricular activities you have participated in, you can upload this document to your application or on the status page after submitting your application. Please note that a resume is required for Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre programs, but is optional for all other programs.
Providing test results
Official SAT or ACT scores are not required. Students taking the SAT should enter the CEEB code (002520). Students taking the ACT should enter the ACT school code (2572).
Obtaining a visa
A student visa to the USA F-1 is issued for academic studies in the USA (long-term study). Purpose of the trip: study at accredited colleges and universities in the USA, private high schools or language schools. If the study takes more than 18 hours per week. Students planning to attend Montclair State University on an F-1 visa should provide the necessary financial documentation as soon as possible so that the appropriate immigration forms can be issued. For Fall 2024 students who wish to apply for an I-20, the application process will open in mid-March. You will receive an email with instructions once the I-20 application is available.
