Year 1 (S1S2 and A1A2 semesters) Students enrol as full-time graduate students immediately on arrival and join a research group. The first year is weighted towards taught coursework in English alongside the start of laboratory research under a supervisor. The Graduate School of Engineering describes the master's programme as "a combination of coursework, exercises, and research", noting that as students advance the focus on lectures decreases and laboratory research becomes central.
